056 – Grey Space
I had a dream last night that I could play the piano so beautifully. It was a sorry realisation when I woke to the knowledge that I can only plink and plonk in reality. I managed to hold on a little of the melody rattlling around the grey space of my head and get it down.
There seems to be an odd timing thing going on in this piece, I’m not quite sure it is in any time signature… if that’s the case, I do like it like that.

sounds like normal 4/4 to me, but the melody is sometimes in quarter note triplets, which makes it sound odd. very nice piece!
i sometimes have dreams where i can sing amazing vocal drones and melodies in a huge, reverberant space. it always makes me wish i had a half-decent voice so i could record an all-vocal ambient album!

thanks :) – i know something was causing an odd but desirable effect. as for your voice, why not just record your singing, then create some pad sounds from that, perfect pitch isn’t needed as you’d isolate a very small piece, effect, filter and loop it. with tons of reverb and a sampler you can sing in a different way ;)

thats an excellent idea. ive been thinking of doing something like that, especially after hearing this amazing album which was created in very much that way:
