Sometimes I really wonder whether I ought to set up some sort of ordered system or process for doing these pieces. I love just putting Reaktor into record mode and seeing where it takes me. I am putting this track up, but unwittingly I didn’t bother to note how I came to make it. It’s not perfect as after a few listens the digital distortion seems too harsh now, but as I recorded it live out of Reaktor 5 whilst twiddling knobs and sliding faders, I can’t replicate it, try as I might. So please mind your ears on this one at around the 2 & 4 minute mark. There are some lovely little sonic bursts in this though, so up it goes!

This is the fourth zip file containing the last ten tracks posted. There are two zip files, one for lower bitrate MP3s and the other for the rather better 320kbps files. I’d like to thank you all for your messages, comments and support. It is the best feeling to know that you are enjoying some of my work.

This is a bit of a departure as this piece is a very experimental one for me. I hope it doesn’t alienate anyone? The starting point was a church peel field sample that I have distorted and reverbed into oblivion. As the track opens it’s unlikely you’d recognise source, but as it develops you can start to hear something of the rhythmic peel and the some of the harmonics. A difficult listen I know, but I do tend to like this sort of thing in my head. All effects made using Reaktor 5 user library ensembles connected in series and parallel. A nice way to use my lunch break.

Whilst teaching my little lad Math this lunchtime, I had a strange old memory come into my head. As a boy I used to search the frequencies on my shortwave radio at night under the blankets. I was hoping to hear those repeating patterns of tones and numbers. They used to hypnotise me and I used to drift off to sleep with them. This little thing is meant to reflect this moment of recall. I hope the sample I found of the MI6 woman is in the public domain?

Had to try and put something down tonight. Tired after a v.busy day. It’s got some lovely tones within it, but just isn’t quite right, I hear odd artifacts, a tiny bit of digital clipping and its stucture is pretty simplistic. That said, I try to keep in mind that this being an audio diary of sorts, it feels ok to put it out anyhow.
