080 – Playground

My little boy had his first taste of his new school yesterday. When he came home he was in raptures about both the school and its playground. So we had fun making this little tune last night.

079 – Electric Head

As I drifted off to sleep, way into the early hours, I had an odd physical and aural experience. My body went through a few strange failing, flying sensations and there was a rumbling, crackling, electric sound that was purely in my head. This was accompanied by little shocks of light behind my eyes. Odd, yet wonderful. In trying to recapture it this lunchtime, it has given me the idea to try and make some other noise soundscapes. So amongst the other things I make there will be these sonic experiments interspersed.

For this one, you must use headphones (actually, I think they are best used for all of my work). Made with a great user library Reaktor .ens that I have to keep secret and a ton of Ableton effects. ;)

078 – Slow Dive

The RAF are out on training exercises around here. It’s hard to work and concentrate let alone make sounds when the jets are flying fast and low overhead.

However, out of my studio/workspace window I caught site of a large transporter plane swooping across in the distance in an angled, elegant, slow dive. Once it had disappeared, I played with Reaktor and this little sequence was the result. Very simple, I know, but still.

077 – Nowhere

The weather is dire and I blame the miserable flat grey sky on my creative block. Not much of listenable quality is coming to the surface. Must try harder. This piece really goes nowhere. Time to rescan the net for some new free vst instuments to see if that will help inspire something better to form.

Remixes 3, 4 & 5

Just want to share a couple of remixes made by a couple of Twitter pals.

First up it’s @Sync24 with his take on ‘Grey Space’, you can grab that from here. His site can be found at http://sync24.com.

The next two are from @nitrowheels who has taken ‘Blue Shift’ and given it a jazz vibe. You can hear this track here. He also took a sample of ‘Almost Beige’ and made a sound all of his own. You can here that one here.

My thanks to them both for taking the time to play with the sounds I am making. It’s always interesting to see how others interpret things.

Keep an eye out for a remix project that my netlabel are planning. Can’t say when it’s happening, but I’ll let you know more soon.

076 – Feedback

Just a little tune that’s popped out from an hour of playing with some feedback settings in Live this lunchtime.

075 – Resolution

Just when I thought I couldn’t crack a work problem and my head was a mess of ideas, everything resolved itself. This little piece reflects how that resolution feels.

074 – Prelude

This is the beginning of something, but I can’t find a middle or an ending. Still putting it up as I am a sucker for strings washed in reverb, however unfinished.

073 – Nonmonotonic

I haven’t slept more than 3 hours in the last 24 as my technological hang-ups seem to have transferred themselves to my day job. I was up all night nursing a couple of out-of-date servers through their tasks. So to help me relax, I made this. Over seven minutes of not quite monotonic drone that is in harmony with the Tinnitus that accompanies my slight headiness, so beware before you download it. ;)

072 – Milk Spilt

The past couple of days have been pretty horrid. The good news is that my laptop is alive! New RAM has brought it back to life. The desktop (my day job PC) needs a new motherboard and RAM. I have bought a couple of better surge strips, to be sure I don’t have this happen again. I know I should have thought about these before, but I guess there is no point crying over spilt milk, as they say.

Here is something I was planning to put up yesterday, the title has now been changed to reflect what went on.
