Sorry everyone but both of my PCs went gone down after a power surge/outage incident yesterday lunchtime. I am taking them this morning to be looked at as I can’t get them to boot up. I am resorting to using my son’s PC (a previous cast off) to do my day job and I will see what I can do in sonic terms with it tonight if I get no joy from the PC repair guy.
Please bear with me.
Thanks, J

Sorry for being quiet, but I have an ear infection and making stuff is a bit difficult, in fact forgive me if this track seems a little unbalanced. It’s the result of some early morning noodling with the laptop in bed. Too much in the way of effects? But that’s what I love…

In a far from creative space. Nothing sounds right.
I have a headache the size of Wales, not self-administered, I might add. I have a knot in my back, with a neck that feels like it’s been starched and ironed in the night. Resteless sleep and an early 6am start for work hasn’t helped either. Outside it’s grey and dull, again.
Still, there was some output. It’s a short dark drone essentially. This is the sound inside my head today.

This a semi-generative piece made with Live and some Reaktor 5 effects. I have been playing around since 5pm with a tutorial file I found on the Ableton forums by Angstrom. I have only been scratching the surface of his ideas, so I can’t honestly take the full credit for this piece. However, I will continue to explore.
The weather here is gloomy, but maybe over the next few days, I’ll manage to slip away and sit on Chesil Beach with my laptop to both work and play to the background sound of the tumbling glaucous sea.

One of things that is great about not being shackled by contracts and copywrite issues when freely sharing is that your creations are picked up and made anew by others. Jonathan Scary, a twitter pal has taken one such piece and made it his own.
Please grab a copy of the original and then take the time to go to http://www.jonathanscary.com/2009/04/grey-space/ and hear his version.
Whilst we have vastly differents styles, it’s a lovely reworking. It’s no longer a sombre moody piece, more silver lining than grey clouds. Sounds a little ‘Lemon Jelly’ like to my ears. Thanks Jonathan. :)

I took my laptop down to the river and made this as the Sun disappeared and I watched its fading amber light bounce across the water.

Not much in the way of sleep last night. I woke early and lay thinking, falling in and out of momentary dreams, where everything was in monochrome, with a hint of a colour I now can’t recall. I made this soundscape soon after, to capture my mood.

Not sure I am in the right frame of mind to put this up, but I feel I ought to. I am not sure it’s even what I intended to make. It uses the same Reaktor ensemble as Blue Shift, but in a different way. It may take many listens to get something from it.

I found a little Reaktor ensemble that involves some granular synthesis and after playing around with it yesterday, I came up with this. The blue-shifting connection is rather tenuous, but I have an interest in all things stellar and had an urge to create something that had an imagined sonic texture. Not the obvious doppler effect that you might expect, but something that, in my head at least, seems more tangible.
