Off-line until late Sunday

Just a little note to say I am out enjoying the sunshine this weekend. :) Sound-making will resume tonight.

095 – Medium Wave

As a boy, if I wasn’t falling to sleep to the sounds of shortwave radio, I’d have my monaural earpiece shoved into my non-pillow ear listening to Radio Luxembourg. One of the weird things that used to happen on the medium wave frequency was a peculiar chorus/phasing/filtering effect that coloured parts of the music. This is a simple short repetitive pattern of notes that has the closest recollection I can make of how it sounded. This is more about the feelings the sound evokes, than the tune. I have added lots of reverb to make it even a little more haunting (for me, anyhow). Maybe some of you will enjoy it?

094 – Fabrefaction

Sorry for being quiet, but I was away this bank holiday having a lovely weekend with Nickie & Niall. Before I went to sleep and then also when I woke v.early this morning, I noodled for a little while. This is result, nothing special, yet for me it has a slight lullaby feel to it, that I like. Despite its simplicity, it was the making of it that was as satisfying as any end result.

093 – 4am

I went to bed with the intention to make sound, but as my head hit the pillow, I was almost instantly sound asleep. I just woke at 4am from a dream where I was at a fairground trying to find someone, I can’t recall who, but I was panicking somewhat. When dreams become nightmares I do a little dreamweaving to change the course of events, the result of which ended up my having tea with Brian Eno at Cafe del Mar. This is a recollection of the looping tune that was playing in the background! V.odd but quite enjoyable!

Ambient Compilation 09

Here is the ninth zip file containing the latest ten tracks posted. There are two zip files, one for lower bitrate MP3s and the other for the rather better 320kbps files.

All of the tracks here are free for you to download.

Thank you for your continued support.

081 to 090 – 96kbps – zip file (34Mb)

081 to 090 – 320kbps – zip file (118Mb)

092 – Turkey

This piece is for those of you who love an industrial noisy drone. It was made by running the original Turkish Eurovision track through a Reaktor graincloud ensemble and then given some crunching compression and limiting in Live.

Oh… I’ve just realised, the compilation should have gone up first. Oops. It’ll be up later today.

091 – Germany

I know that the usual post should have been the compilation of tracks 81-90, but it’s late here and I need to sleep. I have been playing around with the German Eurovision entry and wanted to put this little re-invention up before I have some much needed shuteye.

Made with Ableton Live and Reaktor.

I’ll put up the latest compilation tomorrow.

090 – Finland

Here is the second of my take on this year’s Eurovision. These are the strange warbling tones that came out of some early morning experimentation in Live and Reaktor. It has a slow quiet fade in, so hang in there if you think nothing is happening. ;)

089 – Norway

Seems only fair to play around first with the winner of Eurovision 2009, Norway. What was once a ‘fairytale’ is now a sparse soundscape. Everything comes from small samples of the original track, using only Ableton Live.

088 – Tick

Just a little piece I’ve made whilst working on the Eurovision ambient stuff. I was working to the sound of a ticking clock and decided I’d like to try and create the sound without using a sample. The tune itself is just a little repeated phrase.
