196 – Il Pleut

Ok, so maybe I did find a little time last night to noodle. I have had trouble getting to sleep the past few nights, so I made this very simple, repetitive piece to help solve this. It matched the sound and the rhythm of the rain falling on the slate tiles outside my bedroom window. It sent me off pretty well. Reaktor 5, in Live 8.1 with some FabFilter effects.

Moving home

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you may already know that I am moving home (to Guildford, to be with Nickie) over the next couple of days. So no new sounds are likely until after this weekend. Bear with me, I’ll be noodling again before you know it.

Thanks,

J

195 – Lilac

Whilst my house move continues, I find myself without my little sound studio set-up. So I am resorting to the Netbook, with Ableton Live (Launchpad edition). This has sent me back down the path of making ambient drone pieces. This is a small looped arpeggiated sample I made using Simpler, that has had grain delay and stretching treatment.

I watched the sun disappear this evening and the sky slowly became a deep rich lilac colour. This matched the sense of mood that dusk emitted.

194 – Coruscant

This piece was born out of some experimentation with a piano sample inside Live 8 running through some Max for Live effects. I like to think of it as a glittery drone. There is an optimistic and bright sparkle to it. It pretty much reflects how I feel right now.

193 – Dehisce

Here are the results of last night’s noodling. At lot of things are changing over the next couple of weeks, as well as moving home, it seems my day job will changing somewhat. I will still be working from home, but essentially for a new employer. All a bit nerve-wracking, but exciting nonetheless. Life feels like it’s about to burst open…

192 – Lucubrare

Sleep has been hard to come by the past few nights. So I’ve found myself trying to create at 2 or 3am. Often the results of this tend to be something simple but relaxing, something that will finally send me off to dream.

DJ Chloe Harris – 2 Hour Ambienteer Remix/Set

This rather wonderful surprise appeared out of the blue and has knocked me sideways.

I urge you to listen to it as it really brings some of my work to life in a way that I could not. You can stream or download it from here via Soundcloud.

If you can, please follow @djchloeharris on Twitter and check out some of her other terrific mixes and sets via Soundcloud.

A massive thank you to her and to all of you that have taken the time to listen to my output since this all began last February. It’s been a joy.

191 – Moment

As you will all know January 12th will go down in history for all the wrong reasons. All it took was a moment and everything changed.

My heart is heavy with the thought of the suffering that the Haitian people are going through. It’s unimaginable.

I feel the need to keep creating. In fact I feel incredibly lucky that I have that luxury.

If you can make a donation to help Haiti, please send something.

The lovely Yoko Ono has a link that should cover all options.

New Jerusalem

After listening to the wonderful Mark Hollis solo album the other night, my brain became hooked on a 10 second sample, which I revisited last night. A little looping and some effects in Live and this very small 90 second piece emerged. His music is almost perfect. I plan to work on some other samples from this glorious album and blend them together to make something more substantial and concrete.

Only available as a stream for copyright reasons.
