Another piece made from capturing a small snapshot of a random radio transmission, this time on the FM band.

This was a 45 second sample of an Italian concerto recorded straight into Live 8 with the output passed through around 20 racked effects.

This was then rendered, transposed down a few semitones, filtered and stretched slightly to create this dreamy echo of something from another time.

This piece was made to reflect the end of a perfect day yesterday with my beautiful girlfriend on her birthday.

We sat up by the window on the top floor of the old Simpson building in Piccadilly. The view from the 5th was glorious as the sun left the sky and the lights of London began to shimmer as a sparkling day came to a close.

This is how that heavenly scene sounded to me.

I took a cheap shortwave radio under my bed covers and scanned whilst recording its output. I captured this heavily interfered melody. I looped, layered and gently effected it.

I love this piece.

I’ve been stuck in a non-creative headspace for a little while and decided to go out into the countryside to do a little foraging (black & elderberries) to see if nature could inspire me as well as offering up a fruitful bounty.

I parked up in a quiet layby and started to pick. Only a few minutes in and a couple of other cars pulled up and it was then that I noticed something…

This piece is an experimental idea based on what went through my mind.

Once I have made a few pieces I will share more about this newly discovered (well, to me anyhow) technique. Created using only my Zoom H4n and a Netbook running Live 8 Launchpad edition, PaulStretch, Mammut and using a couple of other little props and tricks.

The sound source in this example is not me… I wonder if any can guess its origin? The distant hum of the A25 can be heard throughout also.
