287 – Frequencies

Have woken with bad Tinnitus this morning and there are a whole bunch of frequencies reaching my brain that the normal bedroom birdsong is barely audible to me.

So before I started work, I decided to finish off a simple little piece that I started last night before bed. However, it now has some added multi-band dynamic effects, to really accentuate the sense of what the space around me sounds like right now.

Lots of buzzing, momentary imagined electronic noises and words… oh and my relentless refrigerator that seems more vocal than usual today. I’ve learned to embrace these odd days of noise. I hope there is something in it that you can enjoy also.

Bandcamp release of ‘more’

You may be aware that I have been cataloging my work into their originally intended album formats and releasing them in a myriad of formats via Bandcamp.

My latest work ‘more’ is up at http://ambienteer.bandcamp.com/album/more

Please take a look and grab a copy or whatever else you fancy. There really is no obligation to buy anything, but if you feel you can, please do so. It really will help me cover the costs of running this blog and making more for you all.

Thanks… x

286 – Elongation

Another piece born out of experimenting in the small hours.

This is a reworking of track number 275 | Amiss, although hopefully it should be near impossible to tell. It was made using the piano piece as a sonic backdrop that was then ripped apart by a Max for Live plug-in called ck.stretch88. The result was thrown through one of my odd fx chains and then finally smoothed out and elongated using PaulStretch.

Despite its 17 minute length, slow movement and lack of transients, if you like drone or shoegaze, you should enjoy it. I hope so. Try it with the lights out as you drift off to sleep…

285 – Flotsam

Something made in the early hours, for early hours listening.

Headphones and/or a quiet space are a must.

It’s especially for those in my Twitter timeline and beyond whose spirited words and deeds regularly lift me clear of the flotsam that surrounds me.

You know who you are! :)

Atlastop – Furthermores and Farewells Remix

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked by Martin Jensen from Atlastop if I would attempt to take track three of their beautiful album – Lily White Eyes To The Skies Over La La Land, a track called Furthermores and Farewells – and give it the Ambienteer treatment.

Having listened countless times to the track (and the rest of their album) I realised that I it might take a bit of experimentation to create a separate yet complimentary sound. I hope that I have managed this. It’s essentially a few small elements of the track, transposed, warped, effected and re-layered.

Atlastop have kindly allowed me to offer up a downloadable version. Please grab a copy and share it across the social networks. I also recommend you look up their album on Bandcamp.

284 – Under and Over

Nightmares last night of watching the tumbling mass of whole towns and villages rushing headlong toward oblivion.

I woke at 5am and tried to make something to counteract the feelings that had been stirred. However much I tried I couldn’t stop this piece from feeling a little mechancial and clinical. Under and over it goes.

283 – Lament

The loss of life and the impact of the Japanese earthquakes and the resulting tsunami destruction has been horrifying to have witnessed.

Every attempt at creating something bright seems to have a air of lamentation.

Love to Japan and its people in these uncertain times.

282 – Oscuras

Had an accident with my Sennheiser headphones and they are no longer working… so I have been forced to create using some rather inferior in-ear Senns, which make balancing everything difficult. I’ve made Drone that sounds ok in my ears. I hope, for now, my mixing in the aural darkness doesn’t come across as unlistenable. New headphones are on order!

281 – Sonant

Whilst working on some ideas for a new track for a Number Stations compilation, this little ditty came to fruition. It’s a five note repetition sample from the start of track 11, disc 1 of the Conet Project Recordings, that I layered, transposed and effected. I then used the sample in two instances of Simpler to make a bell piano sound to add a little motif of my own.

Another short, but nonetheless, sweet little piece.

Really hope you like it!

Ambient Compilation 28

Here is the twenty eighth compilation that I have made for you all.

Sorry this one took so long to complete. Although my health is not 100% yet, I will aim to have the next one take a little less time to produce. ;)

Consider checking out all my releases on Bandcamp? You can grab pristine versions of most of my work so far and have a variety of formats to choose from. They are free to download, but if you can contribute a just couple of pounds/euro/dollars, it would help and delight me v.much.

Thanks for your support.

There are two zip files, one for lower bitrate MP3s and the other for the rather better 320kbps files.

All of the tracks here are free for you to download and distribute.

271 to 280 – 96kbps – zip file (34Mb)
271 to 280 – 320kbps – zip file (104Mb)
