The fourth of five pieces born out of my trip to Arromanches. I’m under the weather with a severe cold, so my ears are not great and I have particularly nasty tinnitus. That said, sometimes this makes a piece a little unique, despite its melodic simplicity.

I woke up at around 4am this morning, sleep was fitful, so I decided to play with a short field recording of a distantly played violin performance. As I stretched, layered and effected the sounds, I was bathed in the light of the Full Moon, almost sensing its pull. As I let the combined layers drone on, I slipped into a barely awake state and imagined the Moon falling to Earth and filling the sky with an increasingly intense luminance.

What your brain imagine if you let this piece gently accompany you to sleep?

This piece was made in the early hours of this morning when, as seems the case right now, I was restless and could not sleep. Medication is to blame. Unusually, I was able to get an idea down and recorded. New work is sporadic I am afraid. Apologies for the wait.

This is my second attempt to make some drone using a usb guitar. This was played live, captured and then layered with some repitching and a huge amount of reverb in Ableton Live.

For the first time, I have used a guitar to make some ambient drone. This is the first piece of a bunch that will involve my attempts to create something beautiful using an instrument I cannot play. These experiments will be spread over a long time to allow myself a chance to get some time on other instruments that I don’t currently have access to. It was made plugging a £79 electric guitar into Live 8 on my laptop, via usb, with a LOT of Reaktor reverb placed in its path. One take, three layers.

This lunchtime as the sunshine broke through for the first time in a few days, I noodled about with a small ten second snippet from Elbow’s Lippy Kids. Guy’s (Craig’s?) simple, yet truly moving, two note piano chord progression was pulled apart stretched, reversed, layed and effected to reflect the magic of the light that was brightening my mood, just as Elbow’s music does for me also. I just hope he and the rest of the boys won’t mind my little twist on their wonderful work. This release, after all, is not a commercial one.

Made earlier this evening as the sun slipped into view between the dark clouds well before the dusk closed in. Its warmth and light lit up the room in which I noodled before quickly disappearing. This is how it sounded to me.
