I was in Palma de Mallorca for a few days to try and boost my Vitamin D levels and managed to persuade @nixnoo that it would be a good idea to bring along my Zoom H1 (as it is a little more discreet than my Zoom H4n) to capture a few sounds here and there.

In order to ensure its use didn’t encroach to much on our time away, I restricted to recording just a few really interesting sources.

This piece is the first of a few that uses the sound of the órgano mayor of Palma Cathedral. The recordings can’t reveal the depth and colour that filled the space last Sunday evening, but hopefully you’ll enjoy them enough to seek out the real thing next time you’re in Mallorca.

Another piece born out of experimenting in the small hours.

This is a reworking of track number 275 | Amiss, although hopefully it should be near impossible to tell. It was made using the piano piece as a sonic backdrop that was then ripped apart by a Max for Live plug-in called ck.stretch88. The result was thrown through one of my odd fx chains and then finally smoothed out and elongated using PaulStretch.

Despite its 17 minute length, slow movement and lack of transients, if you like drone or shoegaze, you should enjoy it. I hope so. Try it with the lights out as you drift off to sleep…

Whilst working on some ideas for a new track for a Number Stations compilation, this little ditty came to fruition. It’s a five note repetition sample from the start of track 11, disc 1 of the Conet Project Recordings, that I layered, transposed and effected. I then used the sample in two instances of Simpler to make a bell piano sound to add a little motif of my own.

Another short, but nonetheless, sweet little piece.

Sorry this one took so long to complete. Although my health is not 100% yet, I will aim to have the next one take a little less time to produce. ;)

I’m in need of some bright sun and luminous blue to break through the flat stone grey sky. I long for the Balearics, where the light bounces of the sand and the turquoise sea.

I’m going now to take some time away from Twitter and this blog so that I can concentrate on a few ‘real life’ things that need my attention. That said, I’m also going to begin a new sound/art project that I will share, but only once it is fully complete. This should be sometime in spring of next year.

I leave you with this little piano piece, full of little imperfections that somehow make it quite lovely to me. I hope it has the same effect on you.

As I worked from the back bedroom I was able to look out and enjoy the blue skies outside my window. However, within the hour all was grey.

I spotted an aircraft at a great height disperse something in the way of a contrail. This contrail did not evaporate however. It gradually puffed up and spread itself across my view. The air cooled, the clouds formed, the rain fell and so, I made this.

I just hope it wasn’t Barium falling.
