FTP problems

Sorry everyone. I can’t update the blog with my latest piece as there is a problem with my hosts FTP. I will try and get the new track up as soon as possible.

Trois jour à Paris

I’ll be away for a few days but I will aim to create something to post whilst I am in Paris with my little lad. I plan to play with sound on the Netbook whilst he sleeps… à bientôt!

Coming soon…

I needed a week away from Twitter and this blog to recharge my batteries a little.

Right now, in my spare time, I’m working on some experimental pieces that involve slowing down sounds to create long drones and soundscapes. I’m building on an idea that I used to create the piece I did of Vaughan Williams – A Lark Ascending, called Ascension. Some of these works are made using my own compositions and some using other artists that are a favourite of mine.

The first of these will be posted here soon.

Ambient Compilation 14

Theta (Pure Tone Remaster)

Once more, something a little special, @pure_tone has taken my latest ambient work, Theta and his talented ears has made my little piece sparkle.

Consider following him on Twitter (@pure_tone) if you care about purist audio. I say, follow him anyhow, even if you just love music in general.

Netbook music making?

Due to budgetary restraints I’ve just bought a Samsung N110 netbook erm, mini-notebook. The plan is try and install Ableton Live 8, Reaktor 5 and my free VST stuff. So far Ableton will run, but using FX will make the CPU max out quickly. I’ll update here on how the system copes as I try out various set-ups over the weekend. One amazing thing is that I have tested the battery whilst installing stuff and it may make me fall in love with this netbook, oops, mini-notebook. My estimate is that under HEAVY use, I’ll get 4 hours minimum from a fully charged start… maybe more?

I know netbooks are meant for basic use. For my day job it will be fine, in conjunction with Remote Desktop access to my developer desktop. However, that said, anything else I can persuade it to do, will be such a bonus.

Laptop has died on me

Sorry, but I won’t be able to post anything for a little while. My once frazzled laptop seems to have had it and won’t boot up at all. Budget is severely tight, so looking at possible Netbook as a temp replacement. Whilst I feel miserable at its passing, the idea of being forced to make ambient on a Netbook does sound quite interesting. Donations are welcome! ;)
