The next few posts are likely to be odd. I say this because out of the blue this weekend my little boy showed me what he’d been up to with his camera and has stunned me.

He is on the Autistic spectrum, a joy, but he does have some struggles. Yesterday, he asked me to look at photos of ‘his world’ (his world, btw, is a model village/town, with cardboard buildings, hornby people and cars (trains are being added v.soon). He’d only been making a stop frame animation! It has floored me. It’s very rough, all hand-held, but it’s has an errie beauty. I may post a link soon.

So, as it is a little unusual, I am aiming to use this week to find something appropriate to fit his lovely (yet slightly dark) first work! Please indulge me? The open-minded amongst you will find some element you can utilise.

Something ambient (ish) spun from Reaktor 5 and Ableton Live just a few hours ago. I apologise for the obvious ‘Jarre’ synth bit, but I couldn’t resist. This was very much straight out of my head and done in minutes. As my intention is to let you all use this stuff in any way for free (credited though…), please don’t be too hard on me for rattling out tons of odds and ends.

Something ambient and wonderfully repetitive from last year (it was floating around for a while before that, I think). I made it for a friend of mine from Washington state. As I don’t tend to document any process, I think it was made using Reaktor 4/5 in standalone mode with a customised .ens. It’s mostly the reverberation that takes centre stage here.

This odd thing came out of some experimentation overnight with timestretching, reverb, delay using the wonderous Omnisphere inside Live. As it was created in the early hours, it has a strange night-time passing feel, like a grandfather clock stretching and unwinding. It’s possibly not complicated enough for some, but it makes me grin.

Something from the end of 2008 that was on my first six track offering. Stillness attempts to capture the tranquility of the Somerset levels that surround my little town. It hasn’t always been so peaceful here. It is just a recording of me playing Atmosphere on my laptop in Live, whilst parked up near Fivehead, staring out through a misty dawn.
