Whilst my house move continues, I find myself without my little sound studio set-up. So I am resorting to the Netbook, with Ableton Live (Launchpad edition). This has sent me back down the path of making ambient drone pieces. This is a small looped arpeggiated sample I made using Simpler, that has had grain delay and stretching treatment.

I watched the sun disappear this evening and the sky slowly became a deep rich lilac colour. This matched the sense of mood that dusk emitted.

A rush of melancholy lead to me play with the Aeolian mode last night before sleep. The sound is born from three instances of Reaktor’s Gaugear and some bussed Reaktor effects in Live.

My mood always begins to go in this direction once summer is over and the leaves begin to rust.

This a semi-generative piece made with Live and some Reaktor 5 effects. I have been playing around since 5pm with a tutorial file I found on the Ableton forums by Angstrom. I have only been scratching the surface of his ideas, so I can’t honestly take the full credit for this piece. However, I will continue to explore.

The weather here is gloomy, but maybe over the next few days, I’ll manage to slip away and sit on Chesil Beach with my laptop to both work and play to the background sound of the tumbling glaucous sea.

Not much in the way of sleep last night. I woke early and lay thinking, falling in and out of momentary dreams, where everything was in monochrome, with a hint of a colour I now can’t recall. I made this soundscape soon after, to capture my mood.

I found a little Reaktor ensemble that involves some granular synthesis and after playing around with it yesterday, I came up with this. The blue-shifting connection is rather tenuous, but I have an interest in all things stellar and had an urge to create something that had an imagined sonic texture. Not the obvious doppler effect that you might expect, but something that, in my head at least, seems more tangible.

The past few days have been v.exciting, but creatively I feel like I have hit a brick wall. This v.simple piece of noise is via a dischordant Reaktor 5 subsynth. Whilst being a little basic, it really does convey the scene outside. The weather here is grey, dull and damp. Eveywhere I look the skies are the colour of Baltic slate.

I will break away from the PC over the holidays, putting paint to canvas, this always helps. Stay with me, I’m sure things will improve over the coming days.

Someone told me yesterday that the colour of outer space is known as Cosmic Latte. In the early hours of the morning I tried to fix that image in my head and made noises with Reaktor. What came out of that is here, it may not be the correct hue but it’s almost beige.
