This is a gentle rolling drone that represents a neighbour’s tree that sits in my workday eyeline. It has the most beautiful deep glowing red bark that lights up like fire when the sun catches it.

It’s so bright at times it feels like I can almost hear it singing. To me, it sounds like this. Headphones, a quiet, comfortable space and 8 minutes of tranquility can be yours.

I made this dark and brooding piece in the early hours. It’s made from just a few samples of me playing with a glass of red wine. Using my hands to make it sing, I then manipulated it in Ableton Live, using only its internal effects. To experience the intended result, this track needs headphones and a dark silent space in which you can relax undisturbed.

As I let my mind drift, I started to hear additional frequencies, fleeting voices, but I couldn’t be sure if they were real or imagined. I hope you get something from it? It won’t be for everyone.

I’ve also made a stretch version of this, but at 120 mins in length, I’ve yet to decide if I’ll post it.

This has sent me back down the path of making ambient drone pieces. This is a small looped arpeggiated sample I made using Simpler, that has had grain delay and stretching treatment.

I watched the sun disappear this evening and the sky slowly became a deep rich lilac colour. This matched the sense of mood that dusk emitted.

I have been playing around since 5pm with a tutorial file I found on the Ableton forums by Angstrom. I have only been scratching the surface of his ideas, so I can’t honestly take the full credit for this piece. However, I will continue to explore.

The weather here is gloomy, but maybe over the next few days, I’ll manage to slip away and sit on Chesil Beach with my laptop to both work and play to the background sound of the tumbling glaucous sea.
