I woke up at around 4am this morning, sleep was fitful, so I decided to play with a short field recording of a distantly played violin performance. As I stretched, layered and effected the sounds, I was bathed in the light of the Full Moon, almost sensing its pull. As I let the combined layers drone on, I slipped into a barely awake state and imagined the Moon falling to Earth and filling the sky with an increasingly intense luminance.

I’m slowly beginning to feel a lot better, but I have a nagging pain issue and sleep is a little difficult now that I have exhausted my Codeine prescription. So I have turned to Ableton and Reaktor to help me create something hypnotic and opiate-like to aid my slip into the arms of Morpheus.

This piece has a long slow intro which means this is at its best with headphones on and a comfortable darkened space in which to relax.

Last night, I dreamt that I was on the run from an unknown and seemingly sinister threat.

Alongside me throughout this was Richard Burton.

He led me through a myriad of yellow chrome lit scenes that appeared to be 1960s London. To escape, he told me of a place we could hide out where he knew we’d be protected. This turned out to be a busy, smoke-filled working men’s club. He sat us down, with ale in our hands, in a darkened corner and began to tell a story, with dozens huddled around us, listening intently.

I woke and knew I had to find something, some interview or recounted episode of his life.

I stumbled upon something which, when edited, seemed to fit. I hope it works?

My son is obsessed with the idea of making a mashup video of some episodes of Fireman Sam, so whilst we have been grabbing some source material off his old DVDs, we played around with a one second sample of the alarm clock at the beginning of the original episodes. Following his lead, this is the result. All done in Ableton Live 8 with Simpler and Fab Filter Timeless. Now to look for some cheap software he can get his head around, to make something visually odd.
