This netbook thing is proving to be v.restrictive. This is the result of many attempts to output something I was happy with, but still I am not. The final version of the track still seems to rely too heavily on the effects I could manage, but not conjure up. It’s a piece, or so of what I wished to make.

I may have to accept the netbook as a sketch pad and look to my desktop (day workhorse) in a dual boot scenario? Work and play… maybe?

After a wonderful weekend, I am alone again for a few days and this always makes me become quite reflective and in search of some quieter place, mentally. For a couple of weeks I have struggled to find a sample from the UK Eurovision entry that worked well.

Early this morning, I found a small snippet that when treated to a reverbed graincloud effect, seemed to perfectly match my mood.

Whilst watching the NASA space walk my speakers started to get some interference from a nearby mobile phone. It got me wondering what the sound of the transmission of data from Hubble to Earth would be like if you could include the sound of space (yes it’s a vacuum, but this is all imaginary anyhow). This is a very experimental piece of rhythmic noise. Make of it what you will. It came about by accident, just relentless fidding with effects upon a few small self-made loops, most likely applied in a way they were never intended to be utilised. It is the leading contender so far for my little boy Niall’s first animation, ‘The Witness’. More on that over the next few weeks.
